Fighting for their industrial heritage

More coverage from the Central Somerset Gazette:

Quote:

One old redbrick building which the RDA hoped originally could be converted is now so dilapidated that the RDA plans to demolish it on safety grounds.

A group of up to 20 angry locals of all ages braved sub-zero temperatures to move into the building early yesterday, defeating the RDA's plan to start knocking it down.

Su Fewell, whose teenage son, Jacob, is among those in occupation said: "My son Jacob, whose great-grandparents worked on the site is in the building, he feels that his industrial heritage has been wiped out.

"This is something very real which could be passed down to other generations especially when Street is talking about a new community centre."
