More of Morlands will bite the dust

"We have carefully considered all our options and, unfortunately, this is the only way we can be assured of safeguarding people from this significant risk," said Carl Budden, head of regeneration at the SWRDA.

"We understand that this building is part of the history of the site, but it has now deteriorated beyond economic repair. We have been forced to take this difficult decision now because, above all, we don't want to see anyone get hurt.

"The building was in a poor state when the RDA acquired the site, and it would not have been good use of public money to repair a building when its future viability was uncertain."

The demolition work is due to start on January 5, and should be finished by the middle of January. Bristol-based TR Demolition, which removed 29 derelict buildings on the site last year, has been contracted for the work.
